The man that caused the sparkle of our charity in 2007, the local Swami Mike from Mahabalipuram, is still actively working for the Society. He knows the area and the inhabitants and is a man that is greatly respected, locally. By his help, many doors open surprisingly easy and completion of several of our initiatives have only been possible with his help. The Society has spent only small amounts of money to indemnify him for his cost and efforts.
The local hotel Radisson BLU Resort Temple Bay in Mahabalipuram has been supportive in many ways. For example, there has been assistance for buying and packing toothbrushes and toothpaste in individual bags for each of the almost 1200 children. The hotel has also arranged parties at schools for prices way below cost price. We are very grateful to the hotel and especially hotel manager Shabin Sarvotham.
The private hospital Chettinad has provided teaching in hygiene and health camps followed up by medical treatment of the children. All transportation between schools and the hospital as well as the working hours spent have all covered by the hospital without charge, which is very generous, especially as it is an extensive and ongoing task. The actual medical treatment at the hospital is paid for by “Schools in India”, and it is surprising how much we get for our money when it comes to treatment of the children. This is in part due to the fact that we get access to public funding to supplement our own payment through the hospital. We are especially indebted to the hospital´s public manager, Madame Leela, for her inspiration and great effort to make everything run smoothly.
